Doey Rock is one of Sacramento's biggest artists. He's a mover and shaker. Always up at the crack of dawn getting his swole on or in the lab. DoeyRock is one of the leaders in the Sacramento hip-hop scene with tracks like "Juggerknot" to "So Sac Wid It" to "Bring Back Double". I got the chance to ask Mean Doe Green about Sacramento music, his upcomin projects and Raekwon! Peep it.

Thanx for Doery Rock for doing this interview with me. What's new? What projects are you working on?

Doey Rock
I'm gearing up heavy for 2010 (God Willing) I'm working on a few projects but my main focus is my 2nd solo full length, Mean Doe Green. I'm taking it back to concepts, bars & big beats. Taking it back to what made people like me in the first place

Is there any special production or features on the new solo album?

Doey Rock
Instead of grabbing one or two producers I reached out to a bunch of talented beat makers in the area like Nicatyne, Goldfingaz, Lateef, Mr Blap, Dj Epik & more. Black Zeek is the main feature on Mean Doe Green.

Nicatyne he is a young cat who rocks will illecism! They are very talented. How did that come about?

Doey Rock
Yep thats him, We run in a few of the same circles. The connection was bound to happen. Nicatyne prolly will have more production credit then the other producers he got that solid West Coast slap !

That's wats up! Well... Your one of sacramento's most noteable artists. Who do you see as sacramento hip hop music's future?

Doey Rock
Black Zeek has a few surprises up his sleeve matter of fact his Gutta Governor mixtape made noise. Polo is also dope. LSolo & Klappa Kid is comin too ! The future is bright out here ! The well runs deep in SAC I jus hope the young bulls can unify better then the OGs have managed to. Thats the onlt way it will work ! (Done )

Speakin of unification in sacramento, How do you feel about the sacramento music scene?

Doey Rock
Our scene like many other cities hip hop is filled with a lot of talent with little REAL support from local radio, local djs & good venues.  A lot of it is our own doing. Everytime we get somethin going somebody get shot or stabbed or whatever so none of the venues want us there. As far as the Djs they have no excuse. The radio gives us love on Sundays only. Its sad that to get heard you have to leave SAC. As Far as the artist go theres more hate then love in the gene pool & some of the new artists. Dont understand how things work, they think u jus spit a dope line & u supposed to put em on. I'm NOT ON HOW AM I GONNA PUT YOU ON ! I could go on & on about SAC Hip Hop in a real way.... (Done)

I dont care about they feelings they all grown men. And if anything I say offends them then they won't make it in the REAL music business anyway. SAC is childs play compared to what goes on In the industry (done)

Damn! Go for the gutso doe! I love it... You are the only hip hop artist from sacramento I see performing with a live band. How did that come about?

Doey Rock
I started doin shows w/ a live band in 06. The first show I did like that was @ harlows on J st. I always like live music plus it adds an energy to my show that cant be matched by a cd. I've always used other local hip hop bands for my live band shows but I'm currently looking to put my own personal band together.

Will there ever be a "live" CD?

Once I pu together a band that can duplicate my music as it sounds on cd I will most definately drop a live Mean Doe Green CD.

Can't wait for that! You travel a lot. A lot of shows out of town. How is the responce out of town compaired to sacramento?

Doey Rock
Its always love. I go into every show w/ the intension to shut it down. I always put out a lot of energy so I get energy back.

Tay
You just got done working with raekwon... how was that experiance?

Doey Rock
I been workin w/ Raekwon since I was 20. We have done 3 or 4 songs together & numerous shows all over, He taught me a lot & has always showed me the most genuine love out of all the major artist I've worked with. Anytime I need him I can call on him he a real dood. Thats family period!

Who is your favorite artist? Mainstreem and local?

Doey Rock
I'm my favorite artist. Nobody f**kin w/ me. Other then me I like hella artists for different reasons. Beinie Segil cause everytime he spit I feel his pain reminds me of Pac in that way. 50 is dope cause he mainy. Jacka cause his style & swag is impeccable. Eminem is lyrically a monster. Been a huge Ice Cube fan since "mix em in put em in a pot like gumbo". Theres more but ill be here all day I mess w/ hip hop for real underground to overground

What is the best cd you ever purchased?

Mary J Blige- My Life, 2pacalypse now, the Chronic- Dr Dre  or only built for cuban Linx 1- Raekwon or amerikkkas most wanted- Ice Cube or Reasonible Dought - Jayz or music to drive by- Comptons Most Wanted,  pick one hahaaaa
